I'm just the opposite: I loved the book, but once I found out what a slimy, despicable homophobe OSC was, it ruined it for me completely. I won't be going to see it or renting it or watching it on cable. I just can't stand the thought of supporting OSC in any way.

It's really too bad, because it was an amazing book.

See, I have less trouble separating a writer's work from the writer than I do an actor. Plus, I figure his biggest pay day was when they bought the rights; the book is famous only within a pretty small segment of the population, so the movie isn't a guaranteed hit (I'm guessing that's why they hired all those A-list actors), and I doubt my $11 will make any difference to his points.

There definitely was a time when I would have rushed to see this movie. I just can't now; it's all been soiled by OSC's horrible bigotry. And I definitely don't think your $11 will make much difference. I think that the movie might jack up book sales, though, for people who've not read it yet. (I bought my copies of that series used, out of a box of books for a dime each sitting outside a classroom when I subbed at Special School District.) I hope they all buy their copies used.
