Let's hear it for electrons!
Nov. 1st, 2012 09:05 pmMy power came back on about 45 minutes ago. It was a long 70 hours, let me tell you. ;)
It's still a real mess around here, with outages everywhere, and up here is not nearly as bad as South Jersey. At least up here, most peoples' houses are intact. The biggest issue right now is gasoline. So many stations don't have power yet that the lines are literally miles long at the ones that do; the sheriff's officers were directing traffic at the ones I passed. It reminds me of the bad old days of the OPEC embargos. Of course, I wasn't driving a Prius back then. ;)
The university has been closed all week, and there's no indication of when it might reopen. Perhaps I'll wait until tomorrow to look at my email; I'm actually a little afraid of how much of it there must be. But I've already decided that the two exams I was going to give next week will be pushed back. I'm such a pussycat. ;)
Dad's power and landline are still out. He does, however, have a brand new cell phone. And I'm going to drag him down here tomorrow to stay with me. The neighbors are great, but I don't want him in the cold any longer than absolutely necessary.
