I just saw on NYTimes.com that Betty Friedan died today, her 85th birthday. I am very, very sad at the loss of this great woman. All of you out there who call yourselves feminists and yet have never read The Feminine Mystique, shame on you! Get your ass to a bookstore, buy the book, and face the fact that as crappy as it can be for women today, it was far, far crappier for your mothers and your grandmothers.

And of course I'm bracing myself for all the small-minded, sexist jabs that will undoubtedly appear in the various media outlets over the next few days.
