Oh God

Paramount has issued a press release announcing J.J.Abrams signing as the director of the next Trek movie. Filming starts in the fall, with a Christmas 2008 projected release date. And the rumor mill (ING) has Matt Damon as Kirk, Adrian Brody as Spock, and Gary Sinise as McCoy. Kill. Me. Now.

Wait, I could get behind that last one. ;)

Actually, don't hate me for saying this, but I think that casting isn't half bad. The real problem is going to be whether Adrian Brody gets swallowed up in the film like he did in King Kong. He's the only really weak link there, I think. Damon is actually a pretty fine actor and I think he'll do a good job as Kirk. Gary Sinise as McCoy is actually very good casting as long as he doesn't twang it up too much.

Nah. My biggest problem is that the rumored script is an "Academy Days" thing, and I think Damon and Brody are just too old. Sinese is a little old too, but I think he could pass.

Just as with the "Starsky & Hutch" movie, even though a couple the original actors may end up having cameos, I'm still not going to see this travesty. (I've always had an odd desire -- one that I've squelched, because it would still mean *buying a ticket to see shit* -- to pay to see the movie, walk (just a bit noisily) in to see the cameo(s), then just as ostentatiously leave as soon as the cameo ends.)

So -- the rumors were accurate all along. Bugger.

Girl, shut your mouth. ;-) I like Gary Sinise. But only DeForest Kelley is McCoy.

You know what this feels like to me (truthfully)? It's like sacrilege. (Well, you know, my strong feelings of the sacred have to lie somewhere, I suppose.) I mean, I can deal with it existing, but I want nothing to do with it (which shows that I'm apparently not a fundamentalist fan, otherwise I'd be advocating some sort of jihad against pseudo-Trek). Meanwhile (conversely), I'm not against the whole fan-movies/episodes thing. Again, don't necessarily wanna *watch* them, but I find that more in the charming category than in the grit-my-teeth category.

You're very welcome. :-)

....what?! I...just... Y'know, why can't they just have unknowns? Why?

You know, I could actually accept Gary Sinise as McCoy. The rest of the casting...I dunno. I have a wait and see for Brody. But Matt Damon?!?! I don't see it.
