I was on weather dot com a few minutes ago and a link popped up under the heading "Of interest to you." I thought I'd post it here in case anyone else might also be interested.

I realize it's for Halloween, but for once an ad nailed it. I developed an interest in photographing cemeteries a few years ago - actually, I was dragged kicking and screaming into it and was immediately converted - and some of these places look gorgeous. Four of the ones on this list are very doable; Brooklyn, the Bronx, Philadelphia, and Concord are all easy drives for me. The other two that look absolutely gorgeous are both in Georgia. Perhaps a road trip over spring break?

After all, I just got a new 8 Gig memory card for my good camera and I'm itching to use it. ;)

I have, a couple of times-- I think there are pictures up on my Flickr. It's glorious. I like it partly because it's not TOO huge; you can tramp over a lot of it in a (fairly) reasonable amount of time. K has also taken some gorgeous photos there.

There's a non-famous one near me that has some neat things tucked in, including a lot of Gypsy graves, and a lovely Our Lady of Guadalupe section.

I agree, cemeteries are gorgeous. Even a lot of the run-of-the-mill ones that were in the city were great for walks that were nice and quiet. I used to have several right by my place in the city, plus parks. One of the cemeteries was where I got most of my pine cones of interesting types for my pine come wreaths. Sadly, a couple of those trees died or were removed. I have no idea what type they were.

The saddest place was the baby cemetery at the very back of one small, peaceful graveyard near my house.

There's a very old one in northwest Jersey with some old stones that simply say "Babies". Heartbreaking.
